Matt Mayhall is a drummer, composer, session musician, and educator based in Los Angeles, California. He plays for The Both, the collaborative project of Aimee Mann and Ted Leo. He also plays with Blue Jean Committee, the soft-rock parody band fronted by Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. He has toured and/or performed with Dar Williams, Liz Phair, John Roderick of The Long Winters, John Doe of X, Susanna Hoffs, Tim Heidecker, Spain, and many others. In the jazz world, he has worked with luminaries such as Chris Speed, Eyvind Kang, Jeff Parker, Larry Goldings, George Colligan, Tim Lefebvre, and Anthony Wilson.

Matt’s new recording as a composer and bandleader features guitarist Jeff Parker (Tortoise) and bassist Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello, Meshell Ndegeocello), with appearances by keyboardist Jeff Babko. It will be released in early 2016.

Matt has an MFA in Jazz Studies from California Institute of the Arts. He also earned both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in percussion from the University of Nevada, Reno. He is endorsed by Paiste Cymbals, C&C Custom Drums, and Innovative Percussion Drumsticks and Mallets.
